The Monarch
From Seminary to Landmark Event Destination
Originally built in 1948 as St. John’s Provincial Seminary and formerly owned by the Archdiocese of Detroit, the property holds deep historical significance. After closing in 2009, the site remained vacant for more than 16 years, its scale and potential largely untapped.
Boutique Hotel Professionals approached the Monarch Ballroom project with the ownership not as a simple expansion, but as a transformative renovation and reactivation—one that would honor the site’s legacy while redefining its purpose for a modern hospitality market.
Reopened in June 2025, the renovation reimagined the property’s event strategy, guest flow, and indoor-outdoor connectivity, converting a long-dormant historic site into a high-demand, sold-out event destination with bookings extending years beyond opening.

The Vision
The Monarch sought to expand its event capabilities to meet growing demand for large-scale weddings, conferences, and social gatherings. Ownership envisioned a modern, versatile event space that could seamlessly transition between indoor elegance and outdoor ambiance — offering guests an unforgettable experience.
Our Approach
Boutique Hotel Professionals led the planning and oversight of a major ballroom addition that redefined the property’s event offerings. Key elements included:
Designing a 17,000 sq. ft. ballroom equipped with flexible layouts and modern amenities.
Installing nanowall technology to allow for a fluid transition between indoor and outdoor spaces.
Creating a 7,000 sq. ft. courtyard that extends the ballroom into an open-air venue for ceremonies, receptions, and corporate functions.
Curating guest flow and design details to ensure a boutique, high-impact event experience.
The Results
Since its opening in June 2025, the ballroom and courtyard have exceeded expectations. Within months, the venue sold out its 2025 calendar and is already booking well into 2027. This overwhelming demand has positioned The Monarch as one of the region’s most desirable venues, setting a new benchmark for modern event design and boutique hospitality.
