The Vision

The challenge was to reimagine an underutilized pre-function space — a former crypt — into a high-impact, revenue-generating venue that would surprise and delight guests. The vision: create an intimate, speakeasy-style environment where wine, food, and atmosphere converge into a truly memorable experience.

Our Approach

Boutique Hotel Professionals led the complete concept development and transformation, including:

• Design & Atmosphere: Introduced over-the-top luxurious décor blending speakeasy intrigue with refined elegance.

• Programming: Curated a wine-forward concept with an exceptional selection paired with fabulous small plates.

• Experience Layering: Added a player piano to keep the atmosphere alive when a live pianist isn’t on-site, ensuring consistency and charm.

• Operational Planning: Designed service flow, menus, and staffing models to balance exclusivity with operational efficiency.

The Results

The Wine Grotto quickly became one of metro Detroit’s most talked-about dining and nightlife experiences, attracting locals and travelers alike. The intimate venue is consistently packed, praised for its distinctive concept, luxurious design, and reputation as one of the region’s must-visit culinary destinations.
