We are proud to share that The Cardinal at Saint John’s Resort will host the LIV Golf Team Championship, taking place August 22–24, 2025

in Plymouth, Michigan.
Hosting a championship of this caliber marks a defining moment for The Cardinal and affirms its position as one of the country’s most compelling modern golf destinations.
A Championship Moment Years in the Making
The selection of The Cardinal as a LIV Golf host venue reflects far more than tournament readiness. It is the culmination of a bold vision and a multi-year transformation that reimagined what a public golf experience could be.
Boutique Hotel Professionals oversaw the development and experience curation throughout the project, a $17 million transformation of a former 27-hole public course into a three-course golf destination built around a hybrid private-public model.
The reimagined golf program opened in Fall 2024 and has quickly gained acclaim for both design excellence and experience quality.
Reimagining Golf with Purpose
The vision behind the transformation was clear:to create a golf destination that blended the prestige and amenities of a private club with the accessibility of a public course.
This approach challenged traditional models and required careful alignment between design, operations, and guest experience. The result is a golf environment that feels elevated, intentional, and inclusive, without compromise.
A Thoughtfully Designed Three-Course Experience
Working closely with the Pulte Family Foundation ownership and Raymond Hearn, Golf Course Architect, Boutique Hotel Professionals oversaw redevelopment of the golf offering, which included:
The Cardinal: A championship 18-hole course designed for tournament play and elite competition
The Little Cardinal: A 7-hole short course emphasizing approach play and accessibility
The Cardinal Putting Course: An 18-hole putting course that enhances the social and experiential side of golf
Together, the courses create a layered experience that serves serious players, casual golfers, and resort guests alike.
A Hybrid Model That Redefines Access and Prestige
Central to the project was the introduction of a hybrid private-public membership model. While the courses remain open to the public, a limited number of memberships offer exclusive benefits, including distinctive elements such as the signature Cardinal Club Jacket.
This model has allowed The Cardinal to:
Maintain broad accessibility
Cultivate a sense of exclusivity and community
Generate diversified revenue streams
Attract both local players and traveling golfers
It is a modern approach that reflects how today’s golfers engage with destination experiences.
From Redesign to Global Stage
Since reopening in fall 2024, the courses have seen strong demand and widespread recognition. In August 2025, that momentum culminates with The Cardinal hosting the LIV Golf Team Championship, placing the course on a global stage and introducing it to an international audience.
For Saint John’s Resort and the greater Michigan market, the event represents:
Global exposure and media attention
Increased sports tourism demand
Long-term destination positioning
Validation of the project’s vision and execution
The Bottom Line
Hosting the LIV Golf Team Championship is not just a tournament milestone. It is a testament to what is possible when development strategy, experience curation, and design excellence are aligned from the start.
The Cardinal at Saint John’s Resort stands as a model for how golf destinations can evolve, blending prestige with access, tradition with innovation, and local roots with global relevance.
